Carbon Capture and Storage 2022 (CCS 2022)

Since 2021 a CCUS lead in the Directorate General for Energy in the European Commission. Co-founder of the Polish E-mobility Foundation - NGO, former Director for Research at the analytical center Polityka Insight. Between 2012 and 2015 a member of private office of two Polish environment and climate ministers and an advisor of the COP19 President (UN climate summit). Between 2004 and 2012 member of the CCS team in the European Commission, responsible for the development of the CCS technology supporting framework. He co-authored the CCS Communication advocating for large scale demonstration projects and drafted part of the European Recovery Package 2008 assigning 1 bn euro for CCS. His other responsibilities included running the CCS knowledge sharing network, preparing the CCS Directive and financing mechanisms.

Sverre Overå has been managing large investment projects for Equinor for the last 25 years.
He was project manager for TCM (CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad) in the design and construction phases, before moving to Brazil and heading up Equinor’s portfolio of modification projects there. In 2016 he returned to CCS when he became project director for the Northern Lights project, a key element of the Norwegian State’s full scale “Longship” demonstration project.

Aslak Hellestø, Business Advisor, Northern Lights JV
An industry professional from Shell with a diverse technical background, spanning degrees in marine and process technology, through experiences across Concept, FEED, Execute and Operate phases in conventional oil and gas business. Experiences include both brownfield and greenfield developments, front end value engineering, offshore construction, asset management and systems engineering.

Currently Business Advisor as part of the Northern Lights JV team, also responsible for government relations and policy advocacy.

Camilla Brox is a self-proclaimed ambassador for sustainable growth. Since 2017 she has assisted businesses and organisations developing effective strategies for economic growth, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. Amongst her clients are Borg CO2, CCUS Norway and the Norwegian Centre of Circular Economy. Camilla has an Executive Master of Management degree from BI Norwegian Business School.

Audun Aspelund has a Phd in process design from NTNU/MIT. He has worked with industrial-scale energy and CO2 abatement solutions holding positions as a researcher (SINTEF/NTNU), business developer (Lyse), CEO (Lyse Neo AS) and chairman of the board (Forus Energigjenvinning)

Torbjørg Klara Fossum (female), graduated with an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Trondheim and joined Equinor (former Statoil) in 1997. She currently holds the position as Vice President for Global CCS. Through various leadership positions she has gained insight in Equinor’s unique capability and experience within Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). These capabilities are based on decades of technology development, Technology Centre Mongstad (the world’s largest test centre for developing CO2 capture technologies), >25 years of operational experience (CCS projects Sleipner, Snøhvit, InSalah) and the current development of the CO2 transport and storage projects in the North Sea that are crucial to enable European industries to de-carbonise (Norway’s Northern Lights, Smeaheia and Polaris and UK’s Northern Endurance Partnership)

Søren Reinhold Poulsen is the Head of DK Assets in INEOS Energy Denmark and takes up the role as Project Director for the Solsort, Hejre and Greensand development projects. He has more than 25 years of experience from the Oil & Gas Upstream E&P business. Søren Reinhold Poulsen has a Chemical Engineering Master of Science degree from the Technical University of Copenhagen and Trondheim (Norway)

Peter McFadzean received a doctorate from the University of Edinburgh Dept. of Geology and Geophysics in 2002 and has subsequently worked with Equinor on major offshore field developments in Norway, the UK and Brazil. Peter currently works with Equinor’s CCS portfolio in the UK, including as asset manager in the Northern Endurance Partnership.

Jon Christopher Knudsen is Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) in Aker Carbon Capture. With nearly 20 years in the oil and energy sector, Knudsen has held several leadership positions in digitalization, customer experience, strategy and HR in the Aker Solutions group. Knudsen joined Aker Solutions after many years in the international consulting company Accenture, where he focused on technology solutions for business insights in oil and energy companies. He is a business economist graduating from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in Norway and the College of William & Mary, Virginia (US)

Ingvild Ombudstvedt, the founder of IOM Law, has been working on legal issues relating to CCS, CCU, CCUS and petroleum for a decade and has through her experience from Arntzen de Besche Law Firm, the Global CCS Institute and IOM Law gained extensive experience with these issues both nationally and internationally. She has previously worked on projects under the Oil for Development Program, advising developing countries on petroleum law related issues and aiding in the development of regulatory framework. She further has extensive experience analyzing, developing and implementing regulatory framework for CCS, CCUS and negative emissions. Ombudstvedt is appointed national expert for CO2 storage, CO2-EOR and ship transportation by the Norwegian Mirror Committee (MC) as part of the ISO project TC265, which is established to provide technical standards for CCS and CO2-EOR. In 2022, she was appointed Chair of the Norwegian MC. She is former Chairperson of the Norwegian Association for CCUS and BASRECCS.

Rørvik holds a PhD in marine geology from the University of Tromsø. She has worked as a consultant exploration geologist as well as lead geologist mapping potential CO2 storage sites until she joined Gassnova 6 years ago. She is currently head of secretariat CLIMIT. The CLIMIT program provides financial support for development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology and consists of two support schemes; CLIMIT R&D and CLIMIT Demo. It is run by the Research Council of Norway and Gassnova respectively where Gassnova has the overall coordination responsibility and heads the program secretariat.

Jo-Kristian Røttereng is a senior analyst at Enova SF and the National Contact Point for the EU Innovation Fund in Norway. He holds a PhD in Political Science from NTNU, Norway, on carbon sequestration options in national climate strategies. He has first-hand experience with climate policy development and implementation at the national and international levels from various positions in public administration in Norway.

Jon Vatnaland joined HitecVision in 2020 from the role as Executive Vice President at Statkraft, the largest generator of renewable power in Europe. He brings extensive knowledge of and experience with the utilities and power generation sector in Norway and Europe.

Having been more than 11 years with Statkraft, Jon was involved in both strategic and business related transformations as well as M&A in the power generation sector. He was instrumental in building up Statkraft’s UK business where he held the position as managing director and led a number of renewable projects, in the context both of developments and transactions.

Prior to Statkraft, Jon worked as a consultant at McKinsey.

Jon holds a PhD in social studies from the University of Oslo and has been a research fellow at the University of Oslo and a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.

Ralf Rank is a Managing Partner in Brookfield’s Private Equity Group. In this role he is responsible for the development of portfolio company business, regional investing and fund strategies. Mr. Rank has held a number of roles across the organization, most recently serving as Chief Investment Officer of the Private Equity Group.

Prior to joining Brookfield in 2007, Mr. Rank was an Associate Director, Investment Banking, at a leading Canadian investment bank with an industry specialization in infrastructure, power and utilities in Europe.

Mr. Rank holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Waterloo and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

After leaving the British Army as an infantry officer in 1990, Sigurd joined Sedgwick Energy in London. In 2001 he left Marsh, and moved back to his home town Ålesund, and eventually found work as a ship’s plumber. In 2003, he joined the then Statoil, in their insurance department. His day to day responsibilities include arranging construction insurances, claims handling and insurance of Equinor’s renewable portfolio. He also arranged the construction insurances for Equinor’s operated CCS Northern Lights and Hywind Tampen Projects.

Olav works with industry decarbonisation in the Nordic countries. His responsibilities include technology options, funding schemes, and policy frameworks for e.g. CO2 capture and storage, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide removal. Olav holds a master’s degree in European Union studies from the Université libre de Bruxelles.
