Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS 2023)

Astrid Bergmål was formely State Secretary for the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (2021 - 2023). She has priviously worked for the Enterprise Federation of Norway (Virke), and as a Political Adviser in the Norwegian Labour Party’s parliamentary party group.

From 2011–2012, she was a Political Adviser in the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. She was a Deputy Member of Parliament in the period 2001–2005. Bergmål is a qualified lawyer and has specialised in European Union law from the University of Oslo (2001 - 2007).

Artem is Head of Clean Tech at Rystad Energy, responsible for the research and solutions covering hydrogen, CCUS, carbon markets, battery market and bioenergy.

Artem’s main areas of expertise include sustainability and decarbonization strategies, with a particular focus on North American energy markets, given his previous role as head of North American oil & gas research at Rystad Energy.

He holds an MSc in Financial Economics from BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo and a BSc in Applied Mathematics, majoring in statistics, from Novosibirsk State University in Russia.

Arne Næsheim works in Equinor with framework conditions for CO2 storages at the NCS and represents today the Offshore Norway Forum for CCS which he chairs. Prior to working with policy and regulatory issues he has had held positions within organizational change in Equinor and elsewhere, but also at political advisor in parliament, ministry and within national party organization.

Eivind is the team leader for CCS at the Bellona Foundation, an environmental NGO who has been working on CCS since 1992. Eivind is a chemical engineer advocating that CCS is necessary to decarbonize industry, but is concerned about inefficient carbon capture applications with low climate benefits.

Dr Per Sandberg is senior advisor in Equinor Low Carbon Solutions, working on a broad portfolio of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen projects. In 2018 - 2020, he led the business development in the Northern Lights project, in which Equinor, Shell and Total together developed an open source transport and storage solution for European CO2. In 2015-16, Sandberg had leave of absence from Statoil to lead the secretariat for the Norwegian government’s expert commission on Green Competitiveness, which delivered its report to the prime minister in October 2016. Before that he was Statoil’s Chief of Innovation. Per has also been managing director at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), leading and delivering the seminal projects Vision 2050 (2010) and Sustainable Mobility (2004). Sandberg has a MScEng in chemical engineering and a PhD on ethical issues of biotechnology, both from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Ann-Cathrin has more than 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. She is manager for climate policy and CCS in Offshore Norge and is responsible for the engagement with authorities and politicians – both in Norway and the EU. Lately she has been focusing on EU’s Net Zero Industry Act and how Norwegian CO2 storage sites can be a part of EU’s overall ambition.

Expertise in CCS is based on 20+ years of international engagement in the research, development and deployment of CCS as a global climate mitigation method. Involved in Sleipner (NO), Ketzin (DE), EU storage mapping, Nordjyllandsværket (DK), Magnum (NL), Schwarze Pumpe (DE), Jänschwalde (DE), Smeahia (NO), Japan ME CCS, Early CO2 Storage (US).

20 years of experience with North Sea oil and gas field development with Maersk, Chevron and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. Associate Professor in Petroleum Geology at University of Copenhagen.

Valborg Lundegaard is Senior Advisor and previous CEO of Aker Carbon Capture, a pure play carbon capture company offering environmentally friendly solutions for removing carbon emissions. She has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry and has held a number of key positions in within corporate and project management and international business development. Prior to her Aker Carbon Capture roles, she served as Executive Vice President Customer Management from 2016 to 2020 and Executive Vice President and head of the Engineering Business Area from 2011 to 2016 at Aker Solutions. Lundegaard began her career in Equinor (then Statoil) gaining experience from both conceptual and offshore work and holds a Master of Chemical Engineering Degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Ole Henrik Ree is an Industry Lead within Microsoft Norway who’s deeply engaged with Microsofts work on the energy transition and has been part of several of the largest CCS projects Microsoft has been involved in.
He has an extensive background with more than 20 years’ experience i IT and energy.

Account Director at Puro.earth, the world’s leading crediting platform for engineered carbon removal. Joona has over three and a half years of experience working in the carbon removal market, and he is currently responsible for the supply under Puro’s Geologically Stored Carbon methodology.

Irina Ålund has a master’s degree in economics from the University of Oslo. She has extensive experience in assessment and improvement of policy measures on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions mitigation. She has worked on evaluating the policies pertaining to CCUS implementation in several countries. In the past years her focus has been on developing LCA tools for various CCS/CCUS value chains. Irina recently participated in several CCUS Hubs projects, as well as studied incentive mechanisms for Waste to Energy and CCS in Europe. Irina is currently managing the team testing out the bio-CCS methodology which is under development by the CCS+ initiative. She is also leading the development of a roadmap for implementation of various Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) pathways for Norway.

Alma is an Associate Partner with McKinsey & Company in Oslo and has worked extensively with clean energy value chains, including CCS and hydrogen in the Nordics and beyond. She works with clients across the value chain, spanning investors, energy companies, technology companies, and end-users / emitters.

Aslak Viumdal is an economist with a broad background as a strategy - and management consultant. He has also worked in the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. In Gassnova, Aslak has contributed to the development of Longship ever since Gassnova was mandated to conduct pre-feasibility studies, back in 2015. Aslak is now following the market developments in the wake of the project very closely. He is working on sharing lessons learned together with the industrial companies involved in Longship, and to get an understanding of the possibilities and challenges ahead.

Maren Nygård Basso works as a senior economist in Menon Economics and is one of Menon’s key resources on projects related to the maritime industry. She is an important resource in the maritime industry analyses conducted by the company, in addition to projects related to the green transition and industry development. This includes industries such as the offshore oil and gas, CCS and offshore wind. Maren has also been working on several projects related to employment and attracting relevant competence for different industries, in order to ensure a continued growth.

Aker Carbon Capture is a pure play carbon capture company. Ida has more than 10 years’ experience within the Aker group and has worked with carbon capture strategies, markets, and projects the last 5 years. Her responsibilities include working with emitters and stakeholders in the Norwegian CCUS market and developing collaborations with key partners globally.

Truls Normann graduated as M.Sc. in Industrial Economics & Technology Management and Electrical Power Engineering from NTNU in 1999, and his career is centered around new technology and business development. This includes leading engineering and delivery of subsea power equipment for subsea compression projects like Ormen Lange, Åsgard and Jansz, including onshore substations, transmission systems and offshore power systems. Truls has over the last 8 years moved into Offshore Wind and Low Carbon power generation such as ZEUS, and has been leading Aker Solutions’ Subsea Energy Transition initiative. He currently holds the position as Senior Vice President for Power & Controls.

Ole is Executive Vise President in Nemo Maritime and responsible for R&D and Commercial activities.
He is a geologist of background and before joining Nemo in 2021, he worked 35 years in the oil and gas industry, holding both technical and managerial positions. The first 20 years were spent within exploration and field development activities, working for Exxon, Equinor (Statoil) and the NPD. He then moved into business development and portfolio management working for Engie and later Edison Norge, where he became Managing Director

Has more than 25 years of experience within the field of failure analyses, materials technology and troubleshooting, project management and project sponsor role. Experience from general industry, process industry and oil and gas industry, research and development. The activities have been including project management & participation, RBI-analyses, pipeline integrity management (PIM) projects, verification projects, fabrication control, contact with authorities, hands on experience through field inspection, laboratory work and experiments.
- PM for the Norwegian part of the CO2SafeArrest JIP funded by Climit and Commonwealth in Australia and leading to the update of the DNV RP-F104 ‘Design and operation of carbon dioxide pipelines’ including two full scale Running Ductile Fracture tests at Spadeadam UK. PM for the following update of the DNV-RP-F104’Design and operation of CO2 pipelines’ (2021).
- PM for various projects related to re-qualification (re-purposing) of existing natural gas pipelines as well as design of new pipelines (concept phase) for transport of carbon dioxide (CO2) in pipelines.
- PM for the WinDea full scale testing of Submerged CO2 pipelines.
Project manager for the newly launched DNV CO2SafePipe JIP and team member in the DNV CO2Safe&Sour JIP.
- Technical expert member for ISO TC265_WG2 , Transportation of CO2, since 2018.

Jan Tore has 27 years of experience from the oil and gas industry, leading multidisciplinary teams within business development, engineering, and operations.

In recent years he has led several innovative projects, developing and implementing new operational- and commercial models.

Jan Tore currently holds the position as Sr. Country Manager for Low Carbon Solutions in Halliburton Norway.

Nicolas Barras possesses a robust engineering background spanning multiple disciplines and brings invaluable experience gained from involvement in subsea processing and compression projects such as Åsgard in the North Sea and Jansz Io in Australia. Nicolas is a proactive advocate for addressing climate change and advancing the role of subsea technologies in the journey towards achieving a net-zero future. Nicolas holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Insa de Lyon, France.

Ronglan is CEO in Ocean-Power who has the ambition to deliver electricity offshore by use of floating gas power plants with carbon capture and injection. He has 30 years’ experience with operations and project execution within the oil & gas industry. Recently as Project Director in OKEA ASA. Erling studied Marine Technology at NTNU.

Nicola is the Centre Manager for the Norwegian CCS Research Centre at SINTEF Energy Research. Trained as a geologist, Nicola worked for 15 years in the Oil and Gas industry, before making a career change to pursue her interest in CCS. Nicola and her team recently submitted a proposal for a new Research Centre, which aims to be a Centre of Excellence for CCS in Norway, with a focus on accelerating the deployment of CCS at gigatonne scale for net-zero emissions by 2050.
