NCS – Safe Haven in Troubled Times?

After a turbulent year in energy markets in 2022, the war of aggression against Ukraine and the disruption of piped natural gas supplies to Europe continued in 2023. Imports of Natural Gas from Russia to the EU have been significantly reduced. Uncertainties prevails regarding the remaining piped Russian gas volumes through Ukraine. The reduction in piped natural gas has mainly been compensated for by a sharp increase in imports of LNG, together with reduced industrial European natural gas demand and relatively mild weather also during the 2023/24 winter season. Security of supply and affordable energy for all is now strongly on the agenda, together with energy transition. There seems to be an emerging understanding that the energy transition will take decades, will be complex regarding the economic, scientific social and political realities, and will have to be fair and just – within countries and between countries.

What is the outlook for oil and gas markets? High oil and gas prices seem to have had an impact on the strategies of oil and gas companies, with a more nuanced approach to continue to find, develop and produce hydrocarbons as well as the strength of and pathway to transition towards renewable energies. Will the NCS be a safe haven in troubled times? Norway has among the highest development activities globally with stable fiscal terms but it has also, similarly to many other countries, experienced climate change litigation cases. What are the consequences?

According to tradition we will have presentations from companies relevant for the actual situation in the industry. Presentation by representatives from RBL banks, financial advisers and other capital providers represented, covering the equity and debt markets, both on the public and private side, as well as alternative financing solutions. Focus on recent trends and shifts in the market and what to expect when it comes to funding availability going forward.

In a pleasant environment at Lysebu, the 2024 Oil & Finance Conference also offers you plenty of opportunity for networking.
