Reservoir characterization 2015 – From  appraisal to tail production

Stavanger

It is exciting times on the NCS. The past few years we have seen high exploration activity and success. A large number of fields are in late stages of production and a record number of fields are being developed (many of which are quite small). At the same time the Petroleum Industry is facing challenges related to high cost and decreasing profitability.

NPDs has set a challenging goal of for 1200 MSm3 of oil *) reserve growth during the 2014-2023 period. Excellent and innovative reservoir characterization for the whole lifecycle of the fields, from appraisal to tail production, is key to realizing the large remaining potential on the NCS. Good reservoir characterization requires cooperation between all the subsurface disciplines; geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir and production.

The clear demonstration of linkages between subsurface understanding and profitability is an important and timely topic given the industry’s current economic challenges. Therefore, the conference will focus on the subsurface technologies and techniques applied to reservoir characterization, and how these technologies and techniques inform decision making, optimize recovery and, ultimately, create value throughout the entirety of the development cycle.
