The 6th annual NPF North Sea Decommissioning Conference 2006
The Norwegian Petroleum Society (NPF) is pleased to invite you to the upcoming 6th annual North Sea Decommissioning Conference at Solstrand Hotel. The conference has been developed in close co-operation across the North Sea and again with input from participants from the conferences of earlier years.
Major removal activities are now well into the execution phase. The challenges encountered on the HSE issues in the past have led us to give extra attention to these experiences at the conference.
As we are progressing into execution, and the challenges related to underwater cutting are becoming apparent, technology is being developed but the ability to deliver the technology, where needed, is still lagging. Developments in cutting technology are important to achieve a safe and efficient performance.. Some insight into the future of some of the relevant technologies will be presented.
We have experienced how difficult it is to bring relevant new technology and tools into the market. Good ideas may remain on the shelf due to lack of financing and there could be various reasons for this. We intend to explore efforts to support technology development.
After repeated requests the conference programme includes presentations on plugging and abandonment of wells and removal of the conductor pipes.
As we have done every year we will have reports from decommissioning projects under way both on the NCS and UKCS. So far Frigg and Ekofisk have dominated this session, but we now see increasing activities on the UK side. We will get more insight into how the challenges are being conquered by the operators, contractors and authorities.
You have all been reading and watching the havoc created by the recent hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico. The resulting damages on the offshore installations and the challenges in cleaning up will be reviewed.
We believe that the conference programme will draw your attention to the various challenges and the most recent experiences on decommissioning of offshore facilities and look forward to see you at the conference.

Cancellations:

Conference paper:
Presentations from the conference will be available on Internet after end of conference.
