The Norwegian Petroleum Society (NPF) strives to make everyone feel safe at our conferences.
At this event, we will ensure sufficient distance between the seats, have antibac available and offer face masks for all participants.

Basic reservoir characterization, together with new technologies and recent advantages in digitalization, are fundamental factors for making good business decisions in exploration and reservoir development. This conference aims to present case studies where multidisciplinary and integrated approaches to reservoir characterization has enhanced our knowledge and created new insight of the subsurface.

NPF Reservoir Characterization 2021 Abstract Template

Dr Tom Manzocchi

Associate Professor, School of Earth Sciences, University College Dublin

Tom is a graduate of Imperial College (London, UK) and Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, UK). Since 2000 he has worked in the Fault Analysis Group in University College Dublin (Ireland), where his research has focused on understanding geological aspects of fault growth and on the representation of fault-related and sedimentological heterogeneities in geological and flow simulation models. Tom is currently an Associate Professor in the UCD School of Earth Sciences, co-director of the Fault Analysis Group, co-Principal investigator of the SFI Irish Research Centre for Applied Geoscience, and Director of the UCD MSc in Subsurface Characterisation and Geomodelling.

David Hodgson

Professor of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, University of Leeds

David M. Hodgson received a B.Sc. (1996) in Geology and Physical Geography from the University of Liverpool and a Ph.D. (2002) from University College London. He is a Professor of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy at the University of Leeds. His research focus is the stratigraphic record of sedimentary basins, is co–principal investigator for the Lobe and Slope Joint Industry Programs, and has supervised >45 PhD students.

Fridtjof Riis

Norwegian Petroleum Directorate

Senior geologist at the NPD, has worked with regional geology and field geology offshore, in particular seismic interpretation and pressure evaluation. Also interested in onshore geology of the Scandes.

Lars Martin Moskvil

Lead Reservoir Geophysicist - Wisting development project, Equinor

Lars Martin has been working with Wisting, Norway’s northernmost oil discovery since 2016 where he is coordinating and leading all the geophysical evaluation.
Previously he has worked in OMV, Total, WesternGeco and Schlumberger, both in operations, development, and exploration in all parts of the NCS.
Lars Martin holds a master degree in geophysics from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), graduated in 2005

Sonja Kuhlmann

Staff Geomodeller, ConocoPhillips

Sonja is a specialist in geomodeling with 15 experience in the oil & gas industry coming from an academic background in geodynamics and hydro-geophysics. She is currently a Geomodeller a ConocoPhillips. Before she joined ConocoPhillips she was involved in reservoir studies and field developments in
clastic onshore setting in Austria with OMV and in Germany a tLeibniz Institute for Applied Geosciences and Institute of Geosciences, University Jena.

Lodve H. Olsborg

Lead Reservoir Geologist, Aker BP

Lodve H. Olsborg is a Lead Reservoir Geologist, based in Trondheim. He joined Det Norske in 2013, now AkerBP. He has a Master’s degree in petroleum geology from the University of Tromsø and the University of Leeds, UK. He has previously worked in the Geoscience department in the Elf-Fina-Total system in various positions and at various locations in Europe for 18 years. His work focuses primarily on Geo-modelling, well planning and well placement optimization during drilling of development wells (geo-steering) on the Ivar Aasen field.

Gianbattista Tosi

Geoscience supervisor, Vår Energi

Started working in eni back in 1997, mainly focusing on reservoir characterization and fractured reservoir modeling. Eventually moved to Italy operation district and abroad assignment in Norway and Egypt. Main focus in the last year has been filed development, with extensive exposure to advanced well placement applications, integrated reservoir modeling and asset management. Currently covering the position as Geoscience supervisor in Vår energi.

Carsten Elfenbein

Senior Geologist, Aker BP

Education: Dipl.-Geol. (1997) at University of Göttingen, Germany
Work experience: broad experience from exploration as well as reservoir- and operational geology with DONG, Statoil, Pertra/Det norske, the legendary Tyr Exploration and Exploro. Currently working with NOAKA field development in Aker BP.

Alina Afanasyeva

Senior Development Geologist, Wintershall Dea

Alina Afanasyeva is a Senior Development Geologist with 15 years of industry experience. She has worked internationally in different locations like Kazakhstan, Denmark, Germany and now Norway with Maersk Oil in the past and now with WintershallDea. She specializes in reservoir modelling and currently hold a Subsurface Lead role leading a multidisciplinary team in field development project.

Lars Riber

Researcher - Section of Geology and Geophysics, UiO

Worked two years as a geologist/petrophysicist in the oil industry after graduating with a Master’s degree in petroleum geology and geophysics from University of Oslo (UiO) in 2009. Started Phd at UiO in 2011, with financial support from Lundin Energy, after discoveries of hydrocarbons in weathered and fractured igneous rocks on the Utsira High, Norwegian North Sea.
Is now working as a researcher at UiO, investigating weathering processes and the development of porosity and permeability in igneous rocks.

Jeremy Watt

Geologist, Equinor

Jeremy received a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Aberdeen (2009), and an MSc in Petroleum Geology from Imperial College London (2010). He joined Equinor after graduating and has worked in exploration, production and field development projects across Norway.

Lina Hedvig Line

Geologist, Aker BP

Lina is a geologist specializing in reservoir characterization and basinanalysis. Experience in prospect evaluation, development ofconceptual geological models and cooperating in multidisciplinarywork groups. Currently working at Aker BP and previously at UiO.

Anja Sundal

Senior Adviser, Earth Observation, Norwegian Space Agency

Anja Sundal is a Researcher and Senior Lecturer at the University of Oslo. She teaches MSc/PhD level courses on geological CO2 storage. Her research focuses on geological reservoir characterization and modelling, relative effects of trapping mechanisms for CO2 and on developing novel methods for geochemical monitoring in CCS: applying noble gas fingerprinting.

Paul Gillespie

Specialist, Structural Geology, Reservoir Characterisation, Equinor

Paul Gillespie is a structural geologist working in Norway. After working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Fault Analysis Group in Liverpool, he moved to Norway in 1998 to join Norsk Hydro where he worked on prediction of subseismic faulting as well as on fractured reservoirs of the Middle East. Continuing in Equinor, his current interests include use of digital outcrops for training of geologists, application of machine learning to seismic interpretation and the use of borehole imagery for reservoir characterisation.”

Dr. Carsten Vahle

Managing Director - Germany, Eriksfiord AS

Carsten Vahle is managing director of Eriksfiord GmbH in Germany, part of the Eriksfiord group with headquarter in Stavanger. He is working with borehole images for 15 years now, doing QC, processing and analyses related to structural geology and geomechanics. Focus area is the Norwegian Continental Shelf, but as consultant he has collected experience also from other areas including e.g. Gulf of Mexico, Newfoundland and Kurdistan. Already during his PhD in Geology 2005 and postdoc at the University of Heidelberg he has analyzed borehole data and core and ever since is fascinated about the comprehensive details it provides about the subsurface.

Long Wu

Principal Geologist, Equinor

Long Wu is a Principal Geologist in Equinor, who has been working on the Northern Lights and CCS-associated projects since 2017. Currently, he is leading a multidisciplinary project mainly focusing on the containment risk identification, assessment, and management of storage sites. Previously he has worked on O&G projects in NCS, deep-water Gulf of Mexico, offshore Brazil, China, and Indonesia, with project experience ranging from exploration, appraisal, and development. Long holds BS and MS degrees in geology from Nanjing University (China), and a Ph.D. degree in geology from Colorado School of Mines (US).

Ragnhild Ona

Lead Geophysicist, Equinor

Ragnhild have been working with reservoir geophysics for many years, since 2001. Starting in Hydro, then Statoil and now working in Equinor. Background from University of Bergen, geophysics, now called Department of Earth science. She has focused on seismic reservoir monitoring (4D) for several years.

Hugh Anderson

Hugh Anderson is a structural geologist in Aker BP’s specialist geology group. He has an undergraduate from University of Aberdeen and a PhD from the Fault Analysis Group, University College Dublin. He works with Aker BP’s asset geoscientists on seismic interpretation and the impact of faults and fractures on sub-surface flow.

Substitutions for registered delegates may be made at any time, but we would appreciate prior notification.

Conference paper:

Presentations from the conference will be available on Internet after end of conference. Delegates will be informed when available by e-mail.
