Field Development for the Future

For the first time in its 25-year-old history, the Field Development Conference – formerly known as Feltutviklingskonferansen – was held with English as its presentation language. Due to the increasingly international focus and English as a business language within the industry, this was a natural next step.

The anniversary conference theme was Field Development for the Future and Norway as Energy Supplier. The Program Committee believe that the future focus on energy transition will become increasingly important and the traditional field development experiences and competencies will support this transition. Development projects must also seriously address the consequences that activities will have on climate. This year’s panel debate circled around how to manage these additional challenges and deliver field development solutions for the future.

More than 110 delegates enjoyed presentations from State Secretary Amund Vik, Ministry of Petroleum and Energy together with representatives from Offshore Norge, DNV, Aibel and Equinor in the first session. Furthermore, insights were shared from project presentations on Oseberg, Maria Phase 2, PWP / Fenris, Fram Sør, Irpa and the Vår Energi portfolio.

This year’s dinner speech was held by the previous committee leader Helge Hatlestad, a field development veteran in the industry. He shared a number of stories from his long and substantial career.

Day two continued with insights from the NPD and Petroleum Safety Authority on Remaining Discoveries and the importance of HSE in Harsh Market Conditions. Furthermore, Equinor, Aker Solutions and Aker BP gave presentations on various topics within Field and Area Developments.

Evaluation from the delegates indicates that the conference yet again was valuable and a success for all present. Looking forward to the next edition in February 2024!
